When released back in October 2012, the QlikView for iOS app introduced offline functionality for the iPad. The app offers a ‘best of both worlds’ experience for QlikView users, allowing full business discovery capabilities when connected, and the ability to access views and maintain associations when offline.

With the release of version 2.0 of the QlikView for iOS app (available in the apple app store), we have made some major improvements in the user interface that are worth noting. While the underlying architecture remains mostly the same, we have added more flexibility and further improved the user experience.

  • Offline Queue:  One of the most significant changes in the app is in the area of management of offline views. With prior versions, you could follow the download process through the progress bar, but it was not possible to manage downloads themselves. We have now added an “Offline Queue” that is accessible from the main screen, with a simple right to left swipe. Using this queue, you can monitor progress as well as pause and restart downloads. Since the queue separates the download process from the main screen, users can now access offline views that are already downloaded while waiting for additional downloads to finish.

1 (Custom).jpg

  • Separation Between Offline Views and Online Apps:  With the latest version of the app, we have now separated the online apps and offline views into two separate tabs. This allows users to clearly distinguish between these modes, more easily find offline views, and most importantly, allow users to access offline views even if they are connected to the QlikView server.

2 (Custom).jpg

  • Improved Server Management:  We have made improvements to make it easier to manage QlikView Server connections. The list of Access Points is now accessible with a left to right swipe from the main screen, which provides an overview of all configured servers. You can more easily add and edit servers as well as change the currently active connection.

  • Settings:  The application settings have now been moved to a menu within the app. This allows users to more easily manage their settings without the need to go in and out of the app.

In addition to these major changes, the design has received a major facelift to comply with iOS7 standards, as well as some small improvements such as file details and favorites available on the main screen.

QlikView Connector for use with SAP Netweaver 5.80 SR2 is now generally available to customers and partners. The software and release notes can be found on the download site http://global.qlikview.com/download.

Highlights include:

All connectors:

  • New authorization object added, used for authority check in all RFC enabled function modules.
  • Transports for SAP basis 720-73x available in MSI package.

Extractor connector:

  • Now possible to migrate activated Extractors between SAP systems by using transports.
  • Language code is used when deactivating Extractors.
  • Now possible to use Extractors with ‘/’ in Extractor name and field name.
  • Bug fix:  timeouts now works in all cases.

We are pleased to announce the general availability of QlikView Expressor 3.11 to our customers and partners. You may download the release here.

QlikView Expressor 3.11 Release Highlights

In addition to visual improvements and bug fixes, QlikView Expressor 3.11 now includes Read and Write QVD file support.

Brief Description of a QVD File

A QVD file is QlikView's native, proprietary Document Data storage format or stream that is commonly stored on disk. It is used in various capacities, but commonly to store and load data in to QlikView very rapidly.  Its structure reflects the uncompressed version of the native optimized in-memory representation of data used within QlikView applications. QVD files only store unique values and everything else are pointers to the parent data; reducing the amount of memory or disk space needed and providing speed-of-thought analysis when using QlikView. Reading data from a QVD file is typically 10-100 times faster than reading from other data sources.

Common Uses of QVD Files

  • Increasing Load Speed
  • Decreasing Load on Database Servers
  • Consolidating Data from Multiple Data Sources (RDBMS, Files, Web, etc.)
  • Consolidating Data from Multiple QlikView Applications

What this means for QlikView Expressor?

QlikView Expressor adds a layer of data governance and data management to your QlikView deployment by providing a graphical, reusable and consistent approach to consolidate and prepare data for QlikView. (learn more here)

With the addition of  QVD support, QlikView Expressor can now utilize the popular QVD storage format for not only writing QVD as output, but also for reading QVD as input; allowing the reuse of existing QlikView QVD assets as data sources for other applications.

How do I use it?

  • Use the QlikView Read operator for reading both QVD and QVX file formats with the respective extensions (.qvx or .qvd).
  • Use the QlikView Write operator for writing both QVD and QVX file formats with the respective extensions (.qvx or .qvd).

We are pleased to announce that the updated version of QlikView 11.20 SR4 Update 1, containing a fix to the issue that caused us to remove the initial version from the download site, has now been released. It is available from the download site (http://www.qlikview.com/download)

The changes to Search and Select functionality that caused previous issues with Set Analysis and Bookmarks have been reverted to the previous way of operating (SR3 and prior). Anyone who has installed the original SR4 (build 12123) should now install this update. If you have already installed the original SR4, you can simply install this Update on top of the original version.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this issue. We are establishing stricter quality assurance and verification measures to ensure that we can continue to deliver high quality releases in the future.

QlikTech has withdrawn Service Release 4 of QlikView 11.20 from the download site due to issues discovered with the release. These issues do not impact previous releases of QlikView 11.20.

Given the nature of the problems discovered with SR4, QlikTech has decided to rerun a complete internal verification program prior to reissuing Service Release 4 to ensure the highest possible quality standards are met. This process is underway and we will give an update on the timeline, as well as details of the identified issues, as soon as we can. Next update of the current situation will be issued within 48 hours. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this change and we encourage customers who downloaded Service Release 4 to hold off testing or deploying this release until the update becomes available.

Again, these issues do not impact previous releases of QlikView 11.20, currently available on the download site.

Any further updates related to Service Release 4 will be posted on this site.
