How to Use the Page Feature in Excel and PowerPoint Report Templates

While the Level feature causes cycling of a field on the same page, the Page feature causes a separate worksheet to be created in Excel and a separate slide to be created in PowerPoint for each field value. The Page feature is not available in Word, though it can be emulated with page breaks, or HTML templates. Another difference is that levels can be nested but you cannot have more than one Page per worksheet or slide. You can have more than one Page field in a workbook or presentation, but on separate worksheets or slides respectively. If the same field is to be applied as a Page to more than one worksheet in a workbook, the same field must be added as a Page and there will be an index in the additional node/tag name. Use of the Page feature, both in Excel and PowerPoint, will be illustrated in this tutorial. We will start from already-prepared simple Excel and PowerPoint report templates that can be found in the NPrintingTraining.nsq which is part of the NPrinting Training environment.

The following reports will be used:

    Open the Template editor.

Note the Page, Country_Page, and Country nodes. Only the Country node token can or need be dragged and dropped into the template. The <Country> tag you see is the result of dragging the Country node token, dropping it into the template, and formatting it.

Copy the report elements on the <Country_Page> worksheet and paste them into the Sheet1 worksheet. The QlikView objects added as image and table can be embedded in more than one worksheet without being added multiple times. However, if for some reason they need to be embedded more than once in the same worksheet, they must be added again for each embedding and will have indices in their names.
