NPrinting 17: how to add email recipients?

Hi all,

I'm completely new to Nprinting. I thought this would be easy but why does the web client ask for a username and password when setting up a user/email recipient? I only want to keep adding email recipients, but I'm not sure how to do this. It seems like if I want to setup 10 recipients, I have to setup 10 users along with passwords? Thanks.

Sifat,

If you  load Users through an "Import Task", password is no longer a required field. You will have to insert a user name because that is how Users are identified when being added to a Publish Task (for distributing reports).

Take a look at the help file:

Importing users with filters and groups ‒ QlikView NPrinting

Use the attached XLSX file as a template for your import.

Hi Aran,

We have a requirement that we successfully implemented using NPrinting 16. The requirement is:

Every report distribution includes the following steps

1. Delete old recipients

2. Generate new recipient list including recipient group info from latest Qlikview app in excel format

2. Add new recipients with their filters and assign them a group.

3. Send reports as email to recipient groups

I am wondering if all above are possible in current release of NPrinting 17? I know that we can import recipient through Import Task but the recipient are added as Users and not related to any app.

Thanks & Regards,

Anosh

Groups can be imported as part of the Excel file. You are correct, users are not assigned to an app so that they can be used globally across all apps.

If as part of the publish task, you distribute to a group rather than individual users, the import task will do the job of assigning users to that group so you don't have to manually add/delete recipients.

Thanks Stephen for your reply.

So if new imported sheet modify Group for a user and make it blank. Will the user group also get modified to blank in next import on server?

If yes than won't this be a problem - because users are centrally managed and being shared by many different task, apps and can be part of many different Groups?

I got below from NPrinting 17 help:

When importing users with groups or roles:

  • if groups or roles added in the row for a user do not exist, they will be automatically created.
  • existing associations with groups and roles will not be removed if not present in the update row. An import can only add associations with roles and groups for a user, but not remove them.

Based on the help documentation, it doesn't look like the group will become blank, but I'd have to test this.

Is it possible for you to not include the users with blank groups in the import file? In that case, you can select the "Remove recipients if not present in import file" option in the import task, and then re-import them when they have a new group assignment.

Thanks Stephen for your reply. The question is still same - if users are

centrally managed and shared across different apps, I cannot remove a user

in next import. I only want to change/remove their Group association based

on my import list. If a user is assigned to multiple groups shared across

multiple apps, I want to remove only my Group which I had assigned in last

import.

Thanks,

Anosh

Hi Stephen,

Have you got chance to see my last reply on your comment?

Another questions would be: Are recipient and users separate entity in NPrinting 17 or are same and managed centrally?

Anosh

Anosh -

Recipients are a subset of users and are managed centrally. A recipient is simply a user who has "permissions" to receive reports.

I am following up with some colleagues and will have an answer about group assignments at the end of the week.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your reply.

Have you got any answer for group assignments?

Thanks,
