Calculating different metrics from a single column

Hi,

I have a large report in Excel that contains different types of medical procedures in one column, as below (not real claim data). How do I manipulate the data to put in a chart grouped by each type of procedure (ECG, Heart Cath, etc.)?

Procedure Cost
Open Heart Surgery $         15,000
Open Heart Surgery $         15,000
ECG $               300
Heart Cath $            2,500
ECG $               300
ECG $               300
ECG $               300

Hi Brian,

yes indeed you need to have a dimension there. From your example it looks like "procedure" is your dimension and "Cost" is a measure.

Qlik does grouping then automatically on chart

hope this helps

Can you share how the raw data looks like?

I copied and pasted it. It was loaded from Excel. The procs are in a single column for about 5 different types.

I’m thinking I may need to build a dimension to filter for each procedure type.

Thanks,

Brian
