Reference measure custom items in code for extension?

Hi Everyone!

I have been trying to create a chart where the user is able to customise the colour and other options of each measure within the measures section of the chart and i have got as far as showing the custom settings within the measures section, however I am not sure how to reference them, see below:

Usually with custom items, you would reference it like this: layout.measCol1, but i have found if it is in the measures section, it comes up as undefined and it cannot be referenced in this way.

Does anybody know how to reference measures items in code? If so, please let me know.
