Using Widgets to get and set variable values in QS

Dear Qlik Community - I'm pretty new to QS and wanted to try and create a very simple toggle using a widget button that sets and gets the value of a variable.  The variable is initially set in the load editor and I want to use the widget to toggle the value of the variable between -1 and 1.  Sounds easy enough but not been able to get my head around it.  Apologies if this is very trivial but any assistance on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

There is no solution for this out of the box. But you could use a variety of extensions you can find on Qlik Branch. For example, this extension Qlik Branch ‌- take a look. You can create your own widget in dev hub too.

Or, in case you don't want to set up some external components, you can make a table with possible values in script and use it as a filter field

That extension works very well, but what I think we'd like to know is: can a widget do the same thing?
