user security

Hi, i was wondering if there is a way of allowing specific users access to sheet properties / security while refusing access to everyone else?

At the moment all of out apps are 'locked down' so the only thing users can do is COPY/CLONE sheet objects. But there are a few users that we would allow to perform other tasks.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Hi,

In regards to section access, when the user sees the document in the server, all users are USER even if they are ADMIN in the script. That means that accessing via client (Desktop Open in Server, Plugin, AJAX) users are never allowed to access the script or save changes (I don't know if you like to make these features available to some users). Restrictions in section access to users are applied to the information they can see, if there is reduction of data, and sometimes used to show or hide conditionally some objects or sheets.

So once the user has granted access, all restrictions apply at document level. For example, you cannot make one user able to resize one object and another one unable to.

However, if the server license is the Enterprise Edition, collaboration and shared objects will work and will allow the users to create their own objects (based on existing or new ones) and share between them.

Hope that makes sense.

Hello Chris,

Assuming you are not in a server environment (where users can only access the reports, but not modify the actual files), using section access you can set two roles of users: ADMIN and USER. The former will be allowed to access the script, save and you can set in the Document properties to override any other security restriction. The latter will not be able to access the script or save the document, according to the Security settings in the document properties.

Hope that helps.

Hi Miguel,

Sorry, we are in a server enviroment. The users access the applications using the IE PLUGIN. I create the applications locally on my laptop then pass them over to the it administrator who loads them onto the QLIKVIEW SERVER and gives the users access. I do not have access to the server myself so i was wondering if there was something i could put into the script or settings to do what i want.

Otherwise, if there is something that can be set up on the server, could you tell me what to do so i can speak to the it administrator and make the changes?

Thanks for your help.
