Enhancement request-Data load editor should not auto log out

Hello!

My colleague was working in the data load editor making a large amount of comments.  She was chugging along using the data load editor and it all of a sudden logged her out even though she was typing in it!

She knows to save before walking away or stopping work because it won’t prompt you to save before logging out, etc.  But, she was working in it and it logged her out with no warning.  She lost ALL of her work!

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue?

How can we make a recommendation that the data load editor should not auto log out?  If it does it should prompt the user to save or it should automatically save a copy of work and allow a user to select which version of the data load editor they want to open on the next login.

mto‌ any insights are welcome.

Thank you!

You can increase Session inactivity timeout setting: https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense/February2018/Subsystems/ManagementConsole/Content/virtual-proxies-...

And simply save more often. A web page is stateless. So the webserver does not know if the page is still open or not in your browser after it has sent that page to your browser. It's up to you to keep the session alive and make sure you're communicating with the webserver before the session time out interval expires.

Thanks Gysbert. I have increased the Session inactivity timeout.

HI Sujeet - Gysbert is 100% on target - and yes - this happened to me as well - BUT I was not in the data load editor, I was in the new manual data entry screen - I decided to create a small data island of sample data to be used as a lookup - and as I manufactured the data - it took time for me to think up the values I needed  - and BOOM - my session timed out and I lost my data entry values.

BUT - what I need to check - is to see if there is a way for auto-save to be enabled while in the data load editor, the same way it is in the visualization designer. That way - even if the session times out - at least most of the work is saved. If I don't find anything in the system, I will create a new feature in our ideation system.

If you do not hear from me, please ping me.

Hi Michael, I'm curious if this has any legs. I'd rather not increase the Session Inactivity Timeout because I don't want users to leave sensitive data open in their browser for long periods.  But as a developer, I could definitely benefit from an autosave feature in the Script Editor (in Sense). As long as the undo button is reliable, I can't see a downside.

Just another vote for autosave! Lost another hour of work this morning in the data load editor.

Hi Lauri - I have this request in our idea system and YES I want to see it implemented too. Quick question - I have seen this happen as well - when multiple tabs are open - and one closes the main tab as the sessions gets lost. Do you recall if you had multiple tabs open? I will make sure to up vote this again in our system.

Thanks a lot for the update, Mike. Yes, I had multiple tabs open. I didn't close any. I didn't do anything with any of the tabs that would reset my session clock, so the timeout was reached.

The loss of work is most likely to happen when writing a lot of script in the data load editor, and I lose track of time and don't click Save. I hope a solution is feasible!

Hi Lauri - I am happy to report something is being worked on as we speak and should be in a release early next year.  Let me know if you  have any more questions!
