Chart Legend formatting single line

To get a chart legend to display on a single line rather then multiple lines it is important to drag the legend from its default position to the bottom and it will appear on the same line, once the legend has been moved from its default position it is very difficult to format it to appear on the same line.If anyone has a better solution to formatting the legend please share
