Where Can I Get More Info Re: Reload Error? QEMC Gives Nothing Useful

Using QlikView 10, Small Business Server edition, I request a document reload. It fails. I found the log in QEMC (which shows the oldest log entry first; WTF?!), but it gives nothing remotely useful:

...
(2011-04-08 13:36:47) Information: Reloading..
(2011-04-08 13:36:55) Information: The Source Document reload complete. DocumentPath=C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Documents\Customers' Sales Dashboard.qvw
(2011-04-08 13:36:55) Information: Memory Allocation Delta for this file=-11.39 Mb. Available Physical Memory Before Reload=4231.52 Mb. Available Physical Memory After Reload=4237.23 Mb. Total Physical Memory=4237.23 Mb.
(2011-04-08 13:36:55) Error: The Source Document was NOT reloaded successfully. DocumentPath=C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Documents\Customers' Sales Dashboard.qvw.
(2011-04-08 13:36:55) Information: Initializing Reload (0), Finished (60195)
(2011-04-08 13:36:55) Error: Reload failed.
(2011-04-08 13:36:55) Information: Closing the document.
...

Seriously? "Document was NOT reloaded successfully?" This is a contender for the most uselessly vague error message I have seen in 20 years of working with computers - and I've worked on Business Objects! Is there somewhere in this system that gives the actual error encountered?

The logfile setting is in the Document under Settings, Document Properties, General tab, "Generate Logfile". With that setting on every reload will generate a logfile named documentname.qvw.log.

I recommend you make logging the default in Settings, User Preferences, Design tab, "Always use logfiles for new documents".

You can turn on generation of log files from Document Setting and see if you get more details on that log when it fails. You can also select checkbox to turn on timestamp in the logfile, then it will generate logfile for each run, which you can clean up once a month or so.

Hope this helps.

Where? I don't see "Document Setting" in the QMC, QEMC under , or Settings | Document within the QVD itself. There's nothing relevant in the log folder (C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\QlikViewServer).

Under QMC | QlikView Server Settings | Logging | Log Level, I've increased the value from Low to Medium; is this the field to which you were referring?

Ugh, an administrative setting that has to be set per-document, one at a time. QlikView is such a frustrating mixture of great ideas and obviously bad design.

Hmm, the log gives nothing useful either, but it's better than nothing. Thanks for the tip, Mr. Wunderlich.
