Question on ALERTS....

Hi, Can anyone tell me if QLIKVIEW can send automatic alerts on a reload ?

We have an Transaction application which reports on transaction from 250+ retail stores. Each store sends in data files automatically at the end of each night. The qlikview app then performs an automatic reload at 5am. When the data is loaded into the app, i would like alerts to go out to specific people informing them of any 'Problems'

e.g.

  • multiple refunds in the same transaction
  • refunds over a certain value
  • large cash variances, etc.

Can this be done?

Hi,

Email / Alert can be sent from Qlikview. You need to creat a VB Script function by defining to whom are all you want to send email and map the same function after the reload in Document setting under trigger tab.

This will do the job for you.

You don't necessarily need any VB script. I've only just yesterday built my first email alert, so I don't guarantee that this is right, but here's an example intended to email a fixed list of recipients if there's a particular data problem. The mail recipients can also be an expression, so could be loaded from a database into a QlikView table, and then concatenated from there, or however you want to source the email list.

When the Qlikview document is run through the Qlikview server it is interesting to note (while it makes sense and is expected) that the mail settings on the Qlikview server (QMC - Qlikview Server Settings -> SMTP/ QEMC System -> Setup -> Mail server) override the Qlikview desktop client mail settings (Settings - User Preferences - Mail).

Cool feature. I hadn't looked it until now either.

I agree that it makes sense, but it WAS a little confusing. I noticed the email settings in the user preferences, but assumed that they wouldn't be associated with the document. I don't control the servers, but I assumed there was something set up on them to handle email. So I crossed my fingers and installed it, hoping that I was right about what configuration would be used and that the servers were configured correctly. Turns out it worked.

Edit: Also, if I'd known that email alerts were THIS easy, I'd probably have had a lot more of them by now. It doesn't even need to be a user alert. It could be something to just let me know if one of my applications is looking a little funny. Hmmm.

I'm not sure what you're asking. I showed an example above. As for what the various fields you configure and write expressions for mean and do, you can search for "alerts" in the help. If you mean how you get there, it's Tools -> Alerts. Or if you want, Tools -> Alert Wizard, and it will (I assume) guide you through the process. If you mean how to configure the server itself, I don't know. I didn't and can't configure our server.

Did you do something extra to make the email adress from QMC/QEMC override the client mail setting?

Whenever I open an application using IE plugin, the server address i empty. Tried changing the address in the console, but the address at the client keeps being empty.

Any ideas?

Hi jensfpk,

I am also experiencing similar problem. On QV Plugin for IE, when I configure the tab User Preferences > Mail, I am able to send email notification via alerts.

Obviously, I don't want to configure it for each user, so I have configured the mail server via QEMC (test: Ok), but when I empty my tab User Preferences > Mail, somehow it does not get the setting definied in the QEMC, and when an alert is triggered, the dialog User Preferences gets opened, and no email is sent.

Have you managed to fix it?

On the QEMC > System > Mail Server, What is the meaning of the tab Folder Access? In the Reference Manual, it says: "On this tab you add the names of the document administrators that are allowed to distribute via e-mail." As for now, this tab remains empty for me.

Thanks in advance,
