millions of repeating string values in memory

I am trying to understand how Qlikview handles millions of repeating string values in memory. What is the best way to handle this?

QV stores each repeating value once. It uses an index pointer in each row to reference the value.

It's true but anyway it won't be as fast as application, where you split repeating values into separate tables and make connections between them. I know it becouse I tested it many times.
