What is Real-Time Data Update?

Hi All,

Please tell me breifly about Real time Data Update.

Thanks in advance.

My thought is---> Real time Data Update----> If Source(Database,xml,text) have any new record and updated records then that will reflect to the Qvw file without reloading.

Is this correct or not?

Hi,

You got it right.

If any records are added/updated in the source database, the change is instantly (as-it-happens) reflected on the other end (in this case, the QVW).

This feature was introduced in QlikView 11 under the name 'Dynamic Update'. This would avoid the hassle of reloading the document as changes will be reflected in real-time.

You can presumably find more information about this in the QlikView Manual or QlikView Help.

I never heard about Real time Data Update, how qlikview knows when there is a change of data in source?

I am not sure about Real Time Data Update, but in QV 11.2 there is a concept called Direct Discovery, which fetches the data from source when the data is required for report.  So that you always have the latest data for your report. 

But in this there is a disadvantage it always hits the database for data, this may lead to performance issues.

Kabilan,

You can search the forums for some examples.

However, like Jagan is suggesting, I would recommend holding off until the release of v 11.2 and explore the possibility of using Direct Discovery for close to real time requirements.

I haven't had a chance to work on this yet, but yes like Johannes suggested, you can look up to the forums for some help or you can probably try waiting until Direct Discovery is released as Jagan advises.
