Hi

Do you mean the QlikView PDF Distribution ?

If so have you purchased the licence for it ?

Hi Bill,

To tell the truth, I'm not sure.  We're a large corporation and I just started working with QV.

From reading posts, it sounds like there is a free(?) download to add a Qlikview PDF printer feature.

I'm not looking to distribute or email the PDFs.

Bill,

On page 63 of the Reference Manual it talks about downloading the Qlikview PDF printer from the homepage and installing.

It doesn't sound like a separate document to purchase.

See this thread

That post is a fair few years old and nowadays I'd recommend the Bullzip PDF Printer.

Thanks for the suggestion, Bill.  I do see Bullzip referred to in few a few threads here.

Is that the only/best way to write reports to PDF files and specify the name in code?

You're quite knowledgable.  Are you on the QV staff?

BullZip is a PDF Printer, as in it installs like a printer on Windows machines.  Then when you print something you select that as the printer to print to and it creates you a pdf file as opposed to a bit of paper from a printer.  You can also call it in command line mode with various parameters and thus embed it in say a cmd file.

The key thing I need to ask is what is the end result you are trying to achieve ?

A single end user to produce a pdf file ?

Something automated ?

Email it somewhere ?

As in what should trigger the pdf file creation and what needs to be done with the created pdf file.

Best Regards,     Bill

p.s.. I don't work for QlikTech.

QlikView Server installs a PDF printer driver when you install it.  This then allows for the creation of PDF files from QlikView Reports to be pulled down via the server.  I believe the one that is bundled with Server is the one that Tracker Software provide.

NPrinting used to use Bullzip for producing PDF's, but for the later versions they have created their own PDF engine that is baked into the product.

Any PDF generator that exposes itself as a printer should be capable of being used in a QlikView macro (the other one that has not yet been mentioned is CuteFTP).  As QlikView macros can use VBScript you will probably find more help on configuring printers on a VBScript based site than QlikCommunity - though I am sure I have seen full solutions on here in the past.

Since becoming an NPrinting advocate the need for sending output to PDF without going via NPrinting has gone away.

Hi Bill,

"Something automated?"

Yes.  I'd like control in a QV/VB script to select report(s) and specify the PDF file(s) to write to.

I don't want a SaveAs dialog box to pop up and require the operator to enter the PDF file name.  I want that to be in the script.
