License lease with Small business server

Hi everybody,

I have a question about leasing a license (i.e. open in server) from a small business server. When I do this, I am not able to add objects, save a document or execute a reload. So my question is, is it possible in any way to make changes to a QlikView document with a Small Business Server license, but without a QV Desktop license?

Looking forward to hear from you guys!

Hi,

it should be possible if you leased a Named user CAL. Could you confirm that this type of license was assigned to the user and not e.g. document CAL?

I think to enable license lease, you need to check an option within the server administration console.

I assumed that document has no additional security restrictions that will prevent normal users from modifying the doc, right?

Stefan

Hi, in order to change a file you need to be able to open the file locally in a QV Desktop, hence you need a license to do that.

You can lease a license from the server by doing a "Open in server", if you have a named CAL assigned, as Stefan mentioned, you should be able to lease one and open the QVW you want to change.

To reload a task you can also use the management console, http://server:4780/QEMC. You don't need a license to do that, you just need your user to be included in the "QlikView Administrators" server's local group.

I have Named CAL's assigned and I can open the file using license lease. However, I cannot make changes:

When I open the file with a QV Desktop license, it is possible to make changes. In both cases I am authenticated as a USER..

You can only make changes when you open a file locally, through file>open option.

Thanks for the information Daniel. I really need a definite answer to this question. Are there any other people who can confirm that it is not possible to change a file with open -> open in server?

It is a late reply, butDaniel Rozental are right. You can not make changes to the qvw-file by opening it from the server. You need to open it directly to do that.

Opening in server is a bit like opening a document from the accesspoint when it comes to file access.

No. you are only adding Server Objects to your document and those are stored into the server.

Emmanuelle, why are you answering posts that are two years old?

Is not marked as answered and as you should know all this post are for future references so 1, 2 ,3... years  are not important to be past because the Subject is still working in newer version QV so can be helpful for many users specially newer ones.

Regards.
