Cluster QVS QMC

Hi community

I have a question about Clustering: I have 2 QV Servers A (Master) and B in a cluster configuration, the QMC is running in QV server A, so when this Server A must be restarted for any reason (windows updates for example) and the server B is running normally and so on this is supposed to still be serving the qv users (cluster service) or this doesn't happens due the QMC is restarting with the QV server A as well?

If I understood, the QMS (Management Service) is also in Server A and because of that every time you restart this server the sencond server doesn't works, so... Yes, you should take QMS (and also WebServer, Directory Service and Distribution Service) to a third machine so that the QMS can continue to link all services (QliKView Server (B), Distribucion Service, Directory Service and Web Server) and provide qlikview for your users.

Thanks for your response Carlos, Yes you got it well, but you have to install QMC in the Master QV Server (Server A my case) to apply the licence and then create the cluster so is not as simply have a independant QMC.

Hi,

I guess the big question is what machine is your QV webserver on?

Hi Bill there are other 5 WinServers independents each one host one QVWS and in the QMC all are added. The QVS A and QVS B dont have a QVWS installed.

QMC cannot be clustered, but QlikView Server, Publisher etc can, so what I do is :

  • QlikView Server, Publisher etc
    • Cluster as per normal
    • These need significant server hardware resources, so I use dedicated physical servers

  • QMC
    • Run on a dedicated Virtual Server
    • QMC needs negligible server hardware resources so is perfect for virtualisation
    • Most virtualisation products can inherently provide hardware level clustering & co-location replication

I understand what you said but the QMC cannot be installed alone with no server and the question is not yet answered if the QMC is down the other QVS nodes in the cluster should be providing service to the users..

Then you should be good to go.
