Machine Name ID

Anyone knows how to get the machine name ID of any client machine that we need to add a named user cal using Machine name identification? I only can assign via "Allow Dynamic CAL Assignment" because i don't know where the Machine Name ID String comes from. Any idea?

The option to assign a CAL to a machine is no longer available. Yes, the option is still there, but it will not work.

Hey emmanuelle,

Usually for assigning CALs you can manually add the users from the AD groups here

QEMC > System > Licence > Qlikview Server > Assigned Cals

. Not sure why you need machine ID.

Edit: Also wouldn't it restrict the user to only work from his machine all the time. What if the user wants to access from iPad.

Yes, but if we don't have the server in a domain?

I can see the Machine name ID's in QEMC > System > Licence > Qlikview Server > Assigned Cals but only after the license was taken via Allow Dynamic License Lease.

But the original problem is how to know (get) the machine name ID used by Qlikview Server to assign license form scratch without use "Allow Dynamic License Lease"

Up until QVS10, the Machine ID was composed of both the NetBIOS name of the client machine and the MAC Address (48-bit Ethernet address) of the network interface that was used to connect to the QlikView server, If my machine is called PC-PETER, and my MAC-address is 12:34:56:78:9A:BC (see ipconfig /all for MAC-addresses of all adapters in the client machine), then the Machine ID becomes:

     PC-PETER [12-34-56-78-9A-BC]

After QVS10, Machine ID was/is composed of a NetBIOS name and a specific ClassID (probably of a network adapter, don't know which one). And as Bill confirms, Machine IDs cannot be used anymore.

Oh thank you Bill for clarify this issue, i didn't know about this but i really passed through a headache trying this due lot of problems with licensing and accessing documents. Even after back to Identification by User Name.

Now i realize what you said. Never Use this Identification.

Best Regards!

Hi Bill - do you know when this was turned off? It was still possible in v10 but somewhere in the move to v11 (an SR perhaps?) it was turned off.

Hi Chris,

I am not sure when the produce team decided that the MachineID was not going to be an option anymore. It was around that time.
