Managing access with a hierarchy

Hi all,

I have this situation.

I have one document qvw in which there is a table like this:

CONTINENT, COUNTRY, CITY

Europe, France, Paris

Europe, Germany, Berlin

America, USA, New York

Some of my users need to access only at the level of city; someone else needs to access to the data of a country or of a continent and some other users need to access to the whole world. The table of the permissions will be something like this:

USER, RESTRICTION

A, *

B, Europe

C, France

D, Berlin

E, USA

The only restriction that I have is to use Publisher and not the Section Access.

I did some test on the QMC under the tab "Distribute - Loop field in document", but I can't understand how to integrate this functionality with hierarchy access.

Is there someone else who had the same problem?

Thanks a lot, best regards

Federica

Hi,

I think it is a bit difficult implement that access using the publisher, you have two fields and you have to create all the folders and set the access via the windows security.

With the section access remember that the * it is all the value listed

Hi,

"The document can be reduced after reload. The reduction can either reduce the input into a smaller document (simple reduce) or split it up into several smaller documents (loop and reduce).

The reduction is based on a selection, either done directly in QMC or using bookmarks."

So in your case when you are looking for a reduction based on user access, I would say that you have to go with Section Access.

If you find Section Access as an option, check this blog : Hierarchy Athorization

Thank you all, I will try as you told me.

Unfortunately, the customer's request is to NOT use section access...

But you can still use the same method as tresesco suggests: Create the field "PERMISSIONS" as described in the blog post, then use the Publisher to loop-and-reduce on that field.

Or, may be simply use the Tree field to reduce on in Publisher.
