[Solved] Qlikview server : Services DSC & QVWS down!

Trying to update server license (due to a conversion of a number of document CALs into Named) on QV Server 11, our customer clicked on Clear License first, then inserted license ID and control code, then clicked on Update from Server. Then it it appeared the orange bar with "One or more services are down" (see attachment).

They doesn't restart, neither rebooting server.

Going to Assigned CALs, then, it appeared the error in the second attachment (Not found: EntLicenses.Properties.CallInfo.AssignedList.AddAssignedUsers)

Any idea?

S.

Solved... customer changed the DNS machine name appending a subdomain.

Before: qliksrv.aaaaaa.cc

After: qlisrv.xx.aaaaaa.cc

So, it happens exactly when they upgrade their licenses... and this make us think that it was a problem due to this update.

Sorry for annoying you, and thank you very much 'cause of your availability!

Take all services offline, clear server license.  Restart all services and you should get the message unlicensed server.  Apply the license and you should be running again.  Ensure the user details are correct on the user running the services

It may be too late now, but did your customer check the Doc CAL assignments before attempting the license update? Bad things happen when for instance you are scaling down from 100 to 50 Doc CALS, but 75 were still assigned to documents/users...

Check the two service logs. The reason why a particular service won't start (again) is documented in its own log file.

Hi Simone,

Ensure that the server has access to http://lef1.qliktech.com and http://lef2.qliktech.com so it can fetch the proper license. I would also check the QVS Event log and see what it says; default location is C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\QlikViewServer .

Regards,

Erik

I think he didn't do anything... And he now has less document cal respect

to previous license.

Which sould be the steps to follow before?

And - more important for me now - what can he do NOW?

Thanks,

S.

Well, if the customers problems are really caused by the assignment of too many licenses, there are a few methods to correct that. The simplest method is to selectively remove licenses from documents (there are more Named CALs now, so you need to worry only about Doc CALs) until the number of assigned/reserved CALs is below the current number of available Doc CALs. Both the QMS and QVS are still running so removal via the Management Console should still be possible. IMHO all other methods belong to the category "brute force".

But first you should make sure that a licensing issue is the real cause. Check you log files (the Events log may also provide some clues)
