"Too many document CALs allocated" problem while assigning CAL assignment to qlikview document

Hi All,

We have been using Qlikview 2011 server and we have 15 document CAL available on the server. We had just started development in Qlikview and developed and uploaded two-three reports though we have plans to upload many more in future. But after assigning document CAL to two reports (For the first one we have given access to 9 users for the second 4 users) when we are trying to assign document CALs to a third report (4 in this case) it is throwing an error "Too many document CALs allocated". We have selected "Allow dynamic CAL assignment" checkbox for all report. Where are we going wrong ? Please suggest a way so that we can use this 15 Document CALs and 5 user CALs effectively to give access to maximum number of users.

Can you check the setting for this? Document CALs not allocated on server:<>

if this is 0, you have exhausted.

Hi Ramkumar,

Thanks for the prompt response. I have checked it is showing zero.

Does that mean if we have 15 document CAL and we assign the CALs to at an

average 7-8 users per report that we can only use them for three or four

reports. Or is there any better way of utilising and assigning these CALs to

users for better performance. Please help.

Hi,

if you have 15 document CALs you can't assign more than 15. So, you said you assigned 9 to one document and 4 to the second that means you only have 2 left. So, you can assign 4 to the third document.

But after assigning document CAL to two reports (For the first one we have given access to 9 users for the second 4 users) when we are trying to assign document CALs to a third report (4 in this case) it is throwing an error "Too many document CALs allocated".

Hi,

I got your point. But my question was does that mean with 15 document CALs I

can only effectively use 3-4 reports or I am going wrong somewhere in

assigning the document CALs. How can I assign my 15 available document CAL

effectively and efficiently so that I can use them for maximum benefit.

Hi,

its quite a difficult question "how can i use the available document CAL for maximum benefit".

1. Analyze how many QV Appsyou would like provide.

2. How many users want to see this QV Apps

Next step is to find the users that will user the most QV Apps -> this user should get named CAL

Then decrement the count of users for each qv app by the count of users with named CAL.

Now you will get the count of document CAL you need per QV app / over all.

there is a possibility to purge document CAL (if not used for a defined time > 24h)

Have a look at this http://community.qlik.com/docs/DOC-5281

Hi,

You can only use reports that you have assigned CALs to, out of you poll of 15. So, if you are using document CALs only 15 users can access documents.
