SectionAccess and DMS Authorization

Hi All, I want to use both SectionAccess and DMS Authorization on one document.  Is this possible?

I prefer the use of SectionAccess but upon a new user needing access, I do not want to refresh the document, only update the DMS.  Any other suggestions welcome.

Thanks,

Gene

Hi Gene,

Why not then use groups in section access and not users? Then assign the new user to the groups.

Hi Gene,

This is fully possible. The Section Access is defined within the document on what data they user should be able to see, DMS is defined within the QMC on the Authorize tab of the user document on what documents that is visible to the user.

Hi Erik,  I find that if I put Section Access on the document, anything I do on the DMS is ignored.  Am I doing something wrong?

DMS is a Authoriztion Access to one document; section access is a control of data. There are not relationship directly, but you can´t use both simultaneous.

If you want to change authorization access of documento with DMS, set the authorization tab in this document.

Hi Gene,

You are still using Windows authentication correct? You haven't changed to Ticketing or some other SSO?

If not it should work find.

Hi Bill, yes I am, but how does Windows Authentication affect authorization?

Hi,

Section Access can use NTNAME (user name from OS). So, if you have changed to ticketing this isn't passed.

Understood.  No SectionAccess works fine, the issue is more with DMS Authentication.   If I have a list of users in SectionAccess and I add a new user in DMS, the DMS is ignored.  I want it to be a union of two.

Hi Gene,

If I understand you correctly, when you add a user to SA you want this to automatically add the user to DMS?

Hi Bill, No, I know that is not possible.  I would need to refresh the document before SA is refreshed.

My detailed scenario is this:  I want to Secure my QVW with SectionAccess and distribute it to the server.  Issue is, when new users come they want access ASAP.  I cannot refresh my QVW to update SA, because that takes time.

If I was using only DMS then I could add the user to DMS and be done with it.  But I can't use just DMS because my QVW will be unsecured.

So I need to use SA to secure the QVW but I also need the ability to quickly add users who are not in SA.

Thank you,

Gene
