Permission Denied to Save QVW to Windows 2012 R2 server

We are spinning our wheels trying to figure this one out.   I open a file from the server using QV 11.  Edit the script, then attempt to save but get permission denied.  However, I can save as another, then have to rename old one to replace with the one I saved as.

Worked with IT and all my permissions are set to Full Access on this server.  We are at a loss in figuring out what could be causing this.   All permissions on the Windows side for my user account are set correctly.  Could there be any setting in the QMC that could be causing some sort of ownership/permissions problem that we are not aware of?

Can you check the effective permissions on the file for the particular user.

This is an option under Security / Advanced and then enter the user name of the user who is seeing the error

Thank you, we did that and the permissions are set there for Admin of which these 2 are a part of.  Please let me know if it has to be assigned to the user and not the Admin group.  Also, is this a Win 2012 R2 specific issue?

When you check the effective permissions, you need to enter the username of the user that you are checking.

This will show the active permissions for the specific user, not simply list the permissions that have been applied to the file.

To view the effective permissions...

  • Right-Click on the file, select Properties, Security, Advanced, Effective Access.
  • Then click on "Select User" and enter the username and click OK.
This will return you back to the effective permissions screen.
  • Finally click on "View Effective Access" to see the users permissions on that file.

I would suggest checking the Effective Access for the user you are seeing the problem with, and for the account that runs the QDS service, and see if there are any differences.
