Qlik Sense Desktop 1.1.0 on Win 7 in VMWare Fusion 7.1.1 Does not create Apps

Hi, I'm trying to evaluate Qlik Sense Desktop.  Install went fine, have .Net 4.5.2.

On clicking "CREATE A NEW APP", giving a name and clicking on "create", waiting (a log time) for the creating app page with spinning circle to disappear, I received an error message:

"No Response from the server.

No response was received from the server when attempting to create the app. Please try again if the app was not created."

It then went to the hub page which had the newly created app. I tried clicking on the app and it hung on the circles animation.

I found the app at:

\\vmware-host\Shared Folders\Documents\Qlik\Sense\Apps\

that was huge in size (20+GB ) and continued to grow until I killed the "QlikSense.exe" process in windows task manager.

Can anyone help me here?

Hi Mike,

To change the home app folder for Qlik Sense Desktop:

  • Shut down Qlik Sense Desktop
  • Go to [My Documents Folder]\Qlik\Sense
  • Open Settings.ini
  • Insert the following line in the section [Settings 7]:

      DocumentDirectory=C:\temp (Or wherever you want)

  • Remember to have an empty line below or insert it as first entry, otherwise the settings won't apply.
  • Restart the Qlik Sense Desktop

Hi Mike,

Qlik Sense Desktop doesn't support a UnC path for apps. Please try to change your app folder to a local folder instead of shared folder.

For VM fusion, you have to disable shared folders: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=100405...

And try again, see if it solves your problem. Thanks.

Hi Bohua Li,

Many thanks for your speedy response, I just tried disabling shared folders and it works.

However, I need shared folders for other uses -  how do I move the app folder in Qlik Sense Desktop - there does not seem to be an option?

Many thanks again,

Mike

Fantastic, Many thanks.

FYI - changing the home app folder also works while using VMWare fusion.

Best,

Mike
