Write a note as a user

How can our user write notes in a field in an application? Heard that this should be possible.

You could search for it in the reference manual or in the help text. Another way to write notes might be with a variable in an input box. Neither seems like a particularly good solution. QlikView isn't good for jotting down notes.

The inputfield is good if the note has to be associated with a field. You can also write notes when you make a bookmark, and if you are using the QV Server Enterprise Edition, users can create their own text objects where they can write notes. They can keep these notes to themselves or share with other users.

This is exactly what I was looking for, that users can create their own text objects where they can write notes and share with other users. But how do we do that?

Jessica,

If you're using the IE Plugin to view the QlikView reports, right-click on a blank space of the QlikView and select "New Sheet Object->Text Object...". In the AJAX client you do the same right-click and select New Sheet Object. The small window will appear and you then drag the Text Object icon (the one that has a 'A').

If you don't see this option, you probably don't have the QV Server Enterprise Edition. Confirm with your provider.

Regards.

Hi i fail to understand how a text box object can be used for user input?

Im also looking at the options available to get user notes entry. I have used the variable input box but this is limited to one line.

Please explain how the text box objectcan be used??

Hi,

do you need an entry for every data record? Than you can use

INPUTFIELD Remark;

in the script and enter in the resp. table

Load ID, Field, ...
'' As Remark
From Table;

that means, that every record gets a new field for input.

Then create a straight table with ID, Fieldlist and Remark. A blue box with an arrow to left appears in the Remark Column. Now every user can enter their own jotting.

If you wnat to save the entries, you can export them and reload with next script reload.
