QlikView Test Server Features and Advantages

hi Guys,

What are the advantages of having a Qlikview Test environment and other features?  My current company only have one Qlikview server (Production) that is running.

Dear Milan,

QlikView Server Test Environment - will help you to do proper testing before go to live (production server).

If you find any issue you can fix it before giving access to your high level user.

Kind regards,

Ishfaque Ahmed

Thanks Ishfaque,

Currently, I created  a test dashboard instance in the Production server. My users can also do a proper testing of test instance.

I'm looking for more detailed features from Qlik.  I tried to Google but the features for the Test server are not published.

Dear Milan,

Please note, test server is the copy of live production server. So test server has the same features which are provided by production server.

Kind regards,

Ishfaque Ahmed

Same features except that you cannot lease a license from a test server and you will have watermarks on the dashboards.

Ishfaque is right: a test server has the same properties (and user licenses) as a genuine production server, except for not being able to lease licenses. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to perform user tests in a perfect copy of the production environment. And that's the whole idea: duplicating production system circumstances to enable you to figure out whether your brand-new document will run fine when published. So no special tools, no dedicated testing instruments, nothing that differs from your end-user environment.

A test server is required when (these are examples):

  • coporate goveranance dictates strict separation between live production systems and test&evaluation systems.
  • when you are running risks of bringing the production system down during intensive load/usage testing on a newly developed document

Test systems are part of a DEV->ACC/TST/QA->PROD software release workflow. See also What all activities will be performed in Qlikview QA/Test Environment
