Document Cals assigned getting deleted from qlikview server

Team,

One of the client is facing an issue where in 2 weeks ago they have manually assigned  some Document CALS .

But these are getting deleted automatically and they again have to reassigned.

Can this assigned  Document CAL  really are getting deleted? Is it possible?

Can you please suggest/advice on this what amay be the cause and what can be done to get all the reassignment again?

Thanks in advance.

Dear Britt,

Thanks.

Currently they are on 11.20 SR7 .

In order to upgrade to SR12 DO I need to uninstall everything related to previous version and thendo the fresh installation again?

Or can I simple run the exe and it will automatically do the needful.

Do I need to take back up of any folders/QMC settings etc?

Hi,

No, installation package will take care of everything. Not knowing how your system is setup, if you have QlikView services installed and disable on a box, the upgrade will enable these services. So, make sure you disable them again.

Dear Britt,

We are upgrading to QIKVIEW QV11 SR12 from SR7 on coming Sunday on Client environment.

What I wanted to know is that after upgrade to SR12  DO we still need any additional patch after upgrading to QVSR12?

Or just upgrading to QV12 will work.

DO I nned to contact QV support to install the patch post SR12 right??

Please advice

Hi,

You will need patch 12907 to fix the CAL issue. However, I would ask for patch 12928 which covers that and several other issues.

You will have to go through support to get the patch links.

Dear Britt,

Thanks for your advise.

There are latest QV 11.20 SR13 has been released and also QV12 and are available for download.

Would you recommend to use SR13 in this case as this is the latest if this release has resolved the CAL issue?

OR should we go ahead with SR12 with the additional path you advised?

Dear Britt,

Do we still need the patch ( patch 12907 to fix the CAL issue. or  12928 which CAL ISSUE AND that and several other issues.) EVEN AFTER UPGRAADING TO SR13.

OR installing QV SR13 will solve all the issue.

Hi,

Here you are somethings examples or solutions to this.

How To Recover Document CALs Assigned To A Deleted QVW

Description

The number of Document CALs assigned does not match the number believed to be assigned.  In other words if the user looks at each document and counts the number of Document CALS assigned to each, this number does not match what QlikView is showing in the Management Console.

The user may also notice that under Documents > User Documents there may be a QVW listed all in caps (MYQVW.QVW) that does not appear in the folder indicated.  This is a good indicator that this is the culprit.

When deleting a QVW it is best to remove the assigned Document CALs first, then delete the QVW.  By doing this the Document CALs are released and put back into the pool.

For example:
Scenario:
You have total 30 Doc Cals available at the beginning. You assign 3 Doc Cals to a file named film.qvw. So you suppose to have 27 doc cals left. When you rename the file name to film_1.qvw or remove to another folder. You will find the doc cals available on the server is still 27. No matter how many times you restart the services or even delete .shared file, .pgo files in the user documents folder.

When you rename the file name back or restore the file to the folder, you will find the file is still contain 3 doc cals.

Resolution

There are 3 ways to resolve this problem, Based on the CALs quantity, you can apply the best possible solution:

Resolution 1:

  1. 1. Stop the QlikView Server service.
  2. 2. Add PgoAsXmlAlso=1 under [Settings 7]  in the Settings.ini file located in %ProgramData%\QlikTech\QlikViewServer (default location)
  3. 3. Restart the QlikView Server service
  4. 4. Navigate to Root Directory and Open the CalData.pgo.xml file to determine to which document the CALs were assigned
  5. 5. Create a new blank QVW file named the same as document listed in CalData.pgo.xml & save it in the Root directory
  6. 6. In Management Console, navigate to Documents > User Documents and locate QWV created in the previous step
  7. 7. Click Document CALs tab and set Number of CALs allocated to this Document to zero and click Apply

Note: This resolution can be applied where the assigned CALs are HIGH in number.

Resolution 2:

  1. 1. Stop QVS and QMS as when you remove files it might still remain in the memory,
  2. 2. And then delete both caldata.pgo file under the "user documents" and also "ProgramData\QlikTech\QlikViewServer"
  3. 3. Restart the services

Note:This resolution can be applied where the assigned CALs are in LOW in number.

Resolution 3:

Clear the license information and reapply again

Note:This resolution can be applied where the assigned CALs are in LOW in number.

I hope it help you!

When you delete those files, the licences stay reserved to the document that was deleted. Before you delete de files you have to delete all licences that you are using in the file.
