Is it possible to change the label of a master library item in a chart?

We'd like to give names to our master items (e.g., measures) that allow self-service developer users to see them listed by groups so they can easily find the measures they're looking for. For example:

Revenue - Gross - Forecast

Revenue - Gross - Actual

Revenue - Net - Forecast

Revenue - Net - Actual

However, these names are not pretty or natural when they show in our charts and tables. We'd like them to be displayed like this:

Gross Forecast Revenue

Gross Actual Revenue

Net Forecast Revenue

Net Actual Revenue

The problem is that we don't see a way to modify the labels associated with the predefined library items. It seems we're stuck with the labels as defined in the library.

We have a large number of measures we'd like to organize/group alphabetically to assist our self-service developers, but we don't feel it would be a good experience for end users to see the developer labels in the visualizations.

Has anyone experienced a need to modify labels for master items? How have you addressed it?

Probably, this is not what you are looking for, but I will throw my 2 cents here. You can try to tag your fields as measures and dimensions so when your developers look for dimensions, all the fields that are tagged as dimensions would be displayed at the top. Here is an example:

As you can see the table Main has all the data, but it is difficult to identify which fields are dimensions and measures or fact. By using a Mapping table, I defined which fields should be regarded as dimensions and measures, then tagged them in the data model by using TAG Fields Using statement. As a result of this, when someone creates a chart, the dimensions will show up at the top when they pick the dimensions:

And the same for the measures:

This could be one way to guide the front-end developers.

Thanks, Sinan; the inline tagging does look useful. I see your screenshots are from QlikView, while we're using Qlik Sense.

The problem we're having is not so much distinguishing between measures and dimensions as it is distinguishing between developers and viewers when it comes to labels. For developers, it's helpful to group all the revenue-related items (or cost, or margin, etc.) together, but this leads to names that aren't intuitive for end users. It would be helpful to be able to tweak the labels on the visualizations, but we don't seem to be able to do this in Qlik Sense.

Have you tried using tags to categories your master items this way?  Add one per categories and will help group items together when searching for them.

Thanks, Andy. I did notice the tagging feature and tried it out this morning, but I must be doing something wrong.

I edited a measure "Net Revenue" in the library and added a tag "zebra" as a test.

I then went into a visualization and chose "Add data" > Measure > searched for "zebra". However, my tagged measure didn't show up. I can successfully search for the field "Net Revenue" by name, but not "zebra".

Am I missing something? It would be very helpful if we could get this to work in this context, since this is the context where self-service developers will be looking for measures to add to their visualizations.

At the moment I think the tagging function only works when using the selection tool.

Click on it in the top right hand corner then type Zebra into the search box your tagged dimensions and measures should come up then.  It would be good to have a filter on tag option when building your visualisations to.
