Distribution Service Stopping without Reason

Recently we upgraded to QV 11.2 SR12.

Every Sunday since upgrading to this version (4 weeks) the Server stops processing between 3:30am and 5:00am.  Upon investigation, the server displays as active, but the only option in the service screen is the 'Start' service button.  In the QMC, the message 'Publisher is down' is displayed.

After starting the service, everything is fine until the next week.

I've reviewed all the logs and nothing indicates why or when the service stopped.  The next entry is the 'Initializing QlikView Distribution Service... Please wait..', after the service is started.

Is this a known issue in SR12?  Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms?

I'm upgrading to SR13 at the earliest availability, but am curious if this will address the issue.  Is anyone seeing this issue in SR13?

Thanks for your support,

B

Always worthwhile making sure you have the latest recommended Windows patches applied.

I had a problem with an earlier QV12 SR with the Distribution Service becoming unstable.  This was caused by a .net bug that was fixed in the recommended Windows Service Pack.

Nice one, Bill!

We did indeed install all the latest Windows updates on the largest QlikView customer platform before upgrading to SR12. Warned by another post somewhere in the community..

I agree with Bill. The messages in the event log point to problems in your Windows environment rather than the Distribution Service itself.

Hi Bill Bill Markham

Do you remember which service pack you had to install?

Jerry

It was back in Oct 2014, see this thread Publisher tasks steadily get slower until Windows Services restarted

Also refer to this document by Qlik, https://qliksupport.force.com/QS_CaseWizardKnowledgeArticle?Id=ka6D000000001HhIAI

It was on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, and was sorted by Windows update 2600217,  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2600217

Your symptoms do not match that ones I had.  But I thought it worthwhile mentioning.

Thanks.

We are just about to start testing and rolling out SR9 to SR13 patch at my customer. Large environment, so I like to find possible problems before instead of after. 🙂

Bizarrely we have just upgraded to QV11.2 SR12 too and our distribution service has also crashed 3 times in two weeks. Always overnight but other than that no pattern. Makes me wonder if we have the same problem?

Bill,

Our windows environment is regularly being updated with the recommended patches by Microsoft, but they appear mostly security based.

Is there a list of patches that Qlik recommends for their ?  I've searched the community, Qlik System requirements, release notes and reference manual, but I wasn't able to find a list.

Thanks,

B

Hi Andrew,

Do a netstat -an | find "666" and if you see the below contact support for a patch. The issue is if a port scan is done and it hits port 666 it will cause QDS to Crash.

c:\>netstat -an | find "666"

  TCP    127.0.0.1:666          0.0.0.0:0              LISTENING

  TCP    [fe80::317d:51ac:7475:c545%10]:666  [::]:0                 LISTENING
