Age Values in Scatter Charts

Has anyone had issues with the way Ages are displayed in a scatter chart?

I created a chart that displays Height distribution by age and gender. The x-axis is my age, y-axis is height and count by gender is my data.

The age values on the chart come across as 2000, 4000, 6000 and so on. However, if I change the chart to a line or bar chart, the ages are fine. The height value has the same issue.

Any thoughts are welcome!

Thank you.

Hello!

I assume your dimension is ¨Gender¨? What aggregation are you using for the x an y axis? Max? Sum?

Can you post an example qvw?

Hi Mike -

My dimensions are age and gender, but my x-axis is also age and my y-axis is ht. I don't have any aggregation going on.

As you can probably tell, graphing is new to me, especially scatter charts. What do I need to do to post an example qvw?

I can put one together.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Umm, That's a good question... I remember there was an option to upload qvw's, but I can't find it now.

You can, instead of uploading it here, upload it to another service, like DropBox or anyother you might already be using, and paste a link to the file here.

Regards and Happy New Year!

Hi, you can add an attachment when you post, just clic in the "Options" tab and Choose "Add/Update" button

The scatter chart needs at least 2 expressions (X and Y values) which are going to be X,Y point, and the Z values will be the size of the ball/circle

An example of this type of chart is the comparative between Sales / Margin by product, in this case sales & margin are expressions and Product the dimension, and Z can be Product Hits

Try uploading the file, maybe we can help you in a better way

Thank you! I've created a test scatter chart using 100 records. It is probably not enough to make the chart meaning full, but hopefully you'll see my issue with the axis (age & ht values).

Thank you for all your help -

Please let me know if this is what you are looking for.

I added a Color Expression to paint blue when the Gender is M and Pink otherwise.

Im getting an error when trying to upload it.. So here is a link to the file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9836540/Transfer/scatter%20chart%20test.qvw

Hope this helps.

Hi Mike -

THANK YOU! That look a LOT better than mine did. I'm going to make the changes you have to my main chart and see what happens.

Thank you again,

Karen

I'm glad it helped. You can add a third expression, for example Sum(Sales) (or anything that makes sense in your app) and this expression will determine the size of the bubble. With only two expressions, the size is the same for all of them.
