topic SQL Server 2008 R2 Connection in Data Movement & Streaming

I am currently utilizing "Microsoft Sql Server (via Direct Access Gateway)" connector to pull data from my SQL 2008 R2 Server. I see there is a warning bubble associated with the "Microsoft SQL Server" connector stating mid August, connections to SQL Server 2012 or earlier will no longer work. However it is not attached to the "Microsoft Sql Server (via Direct Access Gateway)" connector which I am currently using.

Will this update break these connections as well? Or does the update only affect the "Microsoft SQL Server" connector?

If it does affect them, are there any suggested work arounds?

If this won't affect my connections, wonderful, but i'm curious if there are future plans to make a similar update that will break these connections in the future?

Thank you,
James
