Connecting Qlik Data Gateway to SAP SQL

I am trying to connect to a SAP BW system via the data gateway using the Message Server but getting the error below. Same credentials / params work for Qlik Enterprise and the 3 transports are in the relevant SAP system.

"Status(StatusCode="Internal", Detail="Command testconnection returned non-success: Communication failure")"

To make the connection using Data Gateway the DB needs to be reachable for the server where Data Gateway resides

Please check whether the data gateway Machine can connect to the Database.
It can Ping the database host successfully? The gateway Machine can reach the DB?

Review the logs for errors and warnings C:\Program Files\Qlik\ConnectorAgent\data\logs

Thanks - the issue was the use of a message server & gateway working diff to en prem connection
