How to follow persons and receive notifications when they create new content?

Is it possible to receive a notification in my stream when a particular person creates a new document or Blogpost without setting up a friendship first?

You can try 'Follow' option.

Thanks for your reply. But that does not do what I'm looking for.

Using this button I'm subscribed to all reply's, updates, changes of that Question/blogpost/discussion.

I would like to get stream messages when a particular user creates a new Blogpost or document.

Could this be setup using feeds?

No its not possible, you need to be friend of that person.

Hello,

Using a Feed reader and subscribing to a feed I can obtain exactly what i wanted.

The selections are important to get the correct feed. In the picture here under. I can get the feed of the "Documents" "Authored" by "Rob Wunderlich".
