Any plans to deploy QDF now or in the future?

Hi everyone, and big thanks for the warm embracement of the framework.
We have now almost 450 members in the group after four+ weeks, personally think that's really good

To get a discussion going, whom of you have plans to deploy QDF internally or (for consultants) at customer sites?

I'm hoping to set up the QDF in my company for internal and client development work. I just need to talk to our development manager about the plan and get the ball rolling.

Update: The development manager responded positively. Now we need to identify a suitable client project to pilot it on.

I currently have it deployed. It has helped out a lot but it took me a bit to get the basics down. I still find myself using my old folder structure when I'm in a bit of a rush .

Thanks Michael, yes it takes some time getting the hang of a framework.
You need to get the "feeling" of the framework logic before development becomes efficient. We have created the community content so you get a taste on how QDF works, the feeling you need to practice of your own

I have permission to spend a solid week doing a "tech buydown" on our QV environment in the first week of January. I need to redo our entire server folder structure, QVS scheduler, etc...; so this will be a good opportunity to implement QDF. I just finished all the videos, and I'm reading through all the documentation. It appears that I will at least be able to install QDF, and gradually move reports, qvd's and loarders over with minimal downtime.

Hi all,

Just checking in. Installed QDF on the server yesterday, and migrated all my Tier 1 (Extract) loaders to QDF. Today I will be migrating the Tier 2 (Transform) loaders. I am already enjoying how the QMC has our scheduled loaders nicely organized with the new structure!

For now, my goal is to just get all the loaders and reports over to QDF. The next big steps to follow:

Reconfiguring Git (what we use for version control) to track the documents in their new structure and location. This may be tricky to do without losing current version tracking.
Migrating the QVD's to the appropriate QDF directories, then reconfiguring the reports to point to those locations.
Migrating the configuration script to QDF.

I'll post some screen shots when I'm done.

Thanks for the feedback, would be great to get some pictures of your migration.

It will inspire others to start using the QDF methodology.

Extract and Transform loaders are fully migrated (except for SVN). Everything is running smoothly so far. I have one Extract and Transform container, and sub-containers for each database. Since most of our ETL's are silo'd to each database, I should have used a file structure with Extract and Transform sub-containers under each database container. However, our current loaders are already set up in the former structure; so I didn't want to make my changes too disrupting to the system . I have only migrated one project over so far. I am holding off on the rest till our resident Git SVN expert gets back from vacation to help with maintaining version control across the migration.

Thanks Chadd, that is a great setup. I always recommend separating extract and transform into different containers, if you in the future want to reorganize due to organizational or security reasons it will be a pice of cake. Just move the containers in the new structure and change accordingly in the map.

I have since changed jobs and had to create a new QlikView Community account (it is impossible to update your email address).

I am beginning to look at setting up the framework for my new client. They are a brand new QlikView site, so it should be a good opportunity.
