QV10 SR5 Tasks never finish

After upgrade to SR5, I've seen two customers where server reload/dist tasks never complete. The tasks hang loading the document, usually after the reload is complete and then loading again for distribution. If you look at the document log, you'll see an "Execution Complete" message. Look in the TaskLog.txt and you'll see the repeating message:

Loading. LoadTime=00:05:04.1817478

with the time incrementing. This will go on forever until the qvb.exe or the Distribution Service is killed.

Has anyone else seen this problem? Been sucessful in getting it accepted as a bug?

Hi Rob,

I've seen this before: In QV10 SR4 and SR5 there is a bug that makes a memory leak while reading a qvd and using any type of function in the load. So an optimized load fixes it with and then apply the functions via a preceding resident load. This is fixed in SR6.

The server and client both behave the same.

It really made my head scratch until i figured it had to be a bug.

Thanks for the input. Mine looks a little different. It only happens on the server and it does not happen every time.

According to the bug report I read, Its not a consistent as I describe. If you can observe a peak in memory use in the qvb.exe processes this would also fit the error.

Just got the same problem in QV11. Simpe distribution without reload. It is completed, but the task is "running" forever.

Hello,

In response to Michael's bug, it sounds exactly like the bug I’ve seen where the task logs confirm the reload has completed, but the QMC does not update the task status.

This is a known bug 46252 and is resolved in the current patch 11318 available from QT support.

Bug 46252 : Publisher in QV 11 Sr1 - Tasks status on QMC stay on running but they succeeded in the logs

(This bug effect both publisher and non publisher installations)

I've heard about this in QV11. I'm curious, does the TaskLog show the endless "Loading...." messages as it does with V10SR5?

I can't tell at this moment. It's one of these clients with a quite restricted access. I'll check next time when I have a chance.

One thing I can tell for sure is that another task, reload and distribute the same document, was completed on time - I could see it in Access Point.

I has the same problem in QV10, then I have installed QV11 (hoping this will resolve) and it keep happens.

I really don't know if is the same problem, but I upgrade Windows Server from 2005 to 2008, and it resolved the problem.

In other client, the same solution was succesful too.

Rob, witch OS du you have?

One customer was win2003, I just upgraded to Win2008. I'll let you know if it resolves the problem.

The other customer I'll have to check with.

After stopping/starting services the problem is gone. All works as it should. Will be monitoring...

Hi there, I am having the same issue. As Rob pointed, it does not happen always, but the one it did, I had to kill qvd process from task manager, because stoping the distribution service did not work. The main issue here is that it actually provoked a windows kernel error that damaged some entries of the windows registry, so I was forced to performed a freshed Windows Server install and the users were not very happy about this situation. Does anyone know if qliktech has already acknowlede this behavior as a bug?

An update on this problem. I've got one customer squared away after a number of actions. Seemed to be a timing issue.

1. Converted from VM to beefier Physical machine. Problem still occurred, but less frequently.

2. Updated to QV10 build 9519. Problem still occurred.

3. Moved source folders off windows file share on to local drive of QDS machine. problem still occurred.

4. Applied the registry change to increase the desktop heap http://community.qlik.com/message/250402#250402. Problem has not reoccurred and seems to be fixed.

I can't say for certain if the desktop heap change was the fix, or if it was a combination of the above items.
