The best thing beside dialogs for define which ones get shared would be the possibility of a extension of the Qlik script language with additional commands / special "loads" so that we could import own definitions of master dimensions and measures from own - already exisiting - repositories (DB, Excel or source system based or combinations of this). I think this would be the least effort for Qlik and the maximum flexibility for different usage scenarios.

Many partners use already own scripting frameworks and formula repositories (often Excel based) to load at least master measure (named Qlik formulas) from there and generate variables for each measure which then are entered in the master measures. So if the formula changes it can be done in the repository and after the next reload is consistent in all master elements. But the first creation of the master elements especially the measures is a pain in the a... 😉 ...

Besides the commands to import from the Qlik Script language (over the APIs to the regulär Qlik Repository) there should be commands to get a list of existing master elements (at least for dimensions and measures) and the possibilty to delete single elements or all. As well das Update functions.

Over this import/update functions it should be possible to define things like name, field/expression, label/label expression, default color (opt.) as well as the generally missing point of default number format in case of master elements! And no the ussage of "num(qlik exp., '#.##0,00')' is no solution for it. The best would be if 2 formats can be specified. One for the display of absolut values ('#.##0,00 €') and the other for usage in the display of relativ values ('##0,0 %'). In the concret chart the user would then only switch between "absolut / relativ value" and it would be consistent thru the hole app or all apps 😉 ...

This points would make a huge difference in the effort of Qlik app development and maintenance!

Currently master measures and dimensions are specific to the app in which they were created. It would be extremely helpful if you could share these across multiple apps (maybe one depository of master measures/dimensions). Whenever we change a calculation, you have to find all apps that calculation might exist in and update everywhere. It would be much easier to just go to one place.

There is a discussion on LinkedIn thread on similar topic 🙂 It is actually quite complicated imo and worthy of luminary coordination or QlikWorld session.
