nPrinting switch connection from local to server

Dear all,

on Qlik NPrinting May 2021 SR3 i have a connection created with type = "local" so NP is pointing directly to the QVW document without passing by QV server.

Now i would like to switch to "server" connection type and i have one question: are there problems to my existing reports (using this connection) if i perform this change? or is something transparent for it?

Hi,

I assume you still want to connect to the same document (you just want to use different connection type) - then there should be no issue.
Other considerations:
- using server/qvp connection obviously moves workload on QlikView server as that is where "hard work" is done so make sure you have suitable resources to do that on your QlikView server
- make sure your QlikView desktop version (installed on NPrinting machine) is exactly the same as your Qlikview server version - this is one of the compulsory requirements anyway
- check how section access will behave - if applicable
- make sure your ports are opened as required - https://help.qlik.com has all required info. On that website you also will find all requirements for QVP connections and considerations/

Thanks @Lech_Miszkiewicz for your considerations; one question about the first of it: which workload will be moved to QVS? Which "hard work" will be in charge to QVS if i switch the connection type?

Local connections opens qvw file on NPrinting server and uses Nprinting server resources. Using QVP connection will effectively load that QVW on QlikView server (Not Nprinting server) and will utilize QlikView server resources (not NPrinting server resources). Depending on qvw app size, the way qvw was built, expressions used etc.. this can have significant impact.

Hi,

Please note that also connections to QlikView server use the local installation of QlikView Desktop that must not be uninstalled and must have a valid license.
