How does Qlik Replicate handle user authentication — does it integrate with Windows AD or use its own user store?

Hi everyone,
I have a question about user management in Qlik Replicate.

When we add users or user groups under Manage Server → Users and Groups, does Replicate connect to Windows Active Directory (AD) for authentication, or does it manage users internally?

If it does integrate with AD:

Where do we configure the domain or authentication settings?

I’d like to understand how Replicate validates credentials — whether it uses Windows authentication or its own internal mechanism.

Qlik Replicate can use either Active Directory or local permissions, please see this section of the User Guide for details:

I have a follow-up question:
If Qlik Replicate is configured to use Active Directory (or any external authentication method), how does it actually connect to AD behind the scenes?

Does Replicate use a service account or Windows service context to query AD?
Is there any configuration (like LDAP connection details, domain bindings, or credentials) that we need to provide manually?
Or does it automatically use the Windows user that the Replicate Server service is running under?

I’m trying to understand the internal mechanism — how Replicate validates credentials and fetches user/group information from AD.
