Replication from SQL in Azure VM to external LAN SQL Server

Hi - newbie to Qlik here.

We want to use Qlik Replicate to replicate some tables from an Azure VM with SQL installed in it to a SQL Server in a third-party LAN network.

Would I need a VPN for connectivity between the two environments or is this connectivity handled natively within the Microsoft-CDC endpoint?

Hi Indiana001,

As long as your Replicate Server can talk to the Azure VM and a third-party LAN network, you don't need additional VM. Just set up a source endpoint and target endpoint accordingly. You can choose use SQL Server or SQL Server (MS-CDC) as the source type and SQL Server as the target type.

Besides @Kent_Feng comments, I'd like to add more:

1- You may choose a 64-bit Windows, or Linux machine to run Qlik Replicate

2- Setup the machine with suitable hardware configuration

3- Please locate the Replicate Server machine as near as possible (or the same intranet) with the source database "an Azure VM with SQL" to gain the best performance.

Hi apologies - I meant to ask if I would need a VPN between the source VM and the replicate server so they can talk to each other ...

Hi @indiana001

The network connection is handled at the operating system / hardware / network level. There is no special requirement using Qlik software other than to ensure you have network connectivity.

As @Dana_Baldwin suggested, the network connection should be handled by your network team to make sure the server, Windows or Linux, where Qlik Replicate is installed, has the proper access to your source endpoints and target endpoints. They can use VPN, an additional network interface, or other ways to connect to the third-party LAN network, which I think is what you have concern. Just make sure the Replicate server can talk to Azure VM and the third-party LAN at the same time. Hope this helps.
