Tracking sales for new vs returning customers in any given year

I have sales data (customer, acct no, transx date, etc.) that has a simple field for the year a client started working with my company. I would like to compare the share of our sales in any given year that came from new customers vs returning customers.

I've been able to get as far as an expression that breaks out the sales for clients whose entry year = the Max Year in the sales data vs less than the Max Year, but it doesn't work for past years. How can I use my data to get that reporting?
