Real Time Data Load

We would like near real-time (intervals of <5 mins) data visualization e.g. to see server uptime/downtime.

We know that there is a Direct Discovery feature in QlikSense but seems like it only supports:

We are able to make REST web services calls using the connector in QS3.0

Would like to check with the folks here on the following:

1) Is there any method to auto-refresh the REST calls? E.g. via http refresh, ajax, etc?

2) Any other methods to achieve near real-time visualizations? This would be also useful for visualising Building Operation, Facilities management, Machine sensors data in our company.
