How to create a variable in Qlik Sende ?

‌Hi All

i was told by Jennell qlik Sense can create variable. By the above link.

imy application is I need to create one ranking chart by customer for YTD sales and Last Year To Date sales.

i Need this variable as button which allow user to click YTD or LYTD.

i am aware how to achieve this by use of qlik branch variable extension . I like to ask how to do this with out extension ?

HOpe some one can share with me.
