We have a Date Dimension table with both Fiscal and Calendar Year fields in it. I want to allow the user to be able to use either Fiscal or Calendar Years fields from a filter selection button. How do I use a filter selector to allow the user to choose which field to use? The expectation is the user would have a Fiscal/Calendar selector, and a Year selector. Does this require a variable or...?

Thanks,

Chris

Yes, a variable would be a good way to go for this. If you have a button assigning the "fiscal" or "calendar" value to the variable and then include the variable in a set modifier in all your calculations you'll have a relatively simple switch between the two. Exactly how you manage the set selection will depend on how you construct your date dimension and can flag the calendar types. You might need to add a new dimension to make it easier and an alternative would be to just use that dimension in an normal filter control.

This discussion might be useful to you as there are a few things to think about that get covered in it.

Cheers,

Rod
