Are QVD files backward compatible?

Are QVDs backward compatible? for e.g. can I use a QVD created by Qlik Sense February2018 and use it for an Qlik app created using November2017?

If yes, how many versions in the past does Qlik Sense support this kind of backward compatibility?

Hi Mufaddal,

QVDs file can be read by Qlik Sense and Qlik View regardless of version compatibility.

How far does Qlik support this compatibility. Will a QVD file created by QS June 2018 be supported by QS 3.2?

It supports, QVD does not have any individual settings. It's compatible with all versions.

Hi Mufaddal,

Indeed, Qlik is very flexible, but Why would you want to have a site with so many QVD files version? the advise is to keep the Qlik Sense Engine version as newer as possible, and once you upgrade it to this newer version run all the QVD Creator tasks so most of your QVD would had been create by the same engine.

QVDs created with QS V2+ are compatible with all versions. QVDs created by QS V1 used a different format, but hopefully there are none of those lying around.
