It appears that this issue has still not been addressed. Plotting in log scale for both the x- and y-axes is a critical need when conducting scientific work. The only option now is to perform a log transform of the data but then one needs to do the mental transform to understand what the axis labels represent (e.g., when I see 3.3, I have to take 10^3.3 which is roughly 2000). What is the hold up?
