topic disable search magnifier icon in table in App Development

I searched and saw this question has been asked before and the only solution seems to be to change your dimension column to a measure. Is that really the only workaround? Ideally, I would like to disable the search feature for the entire table because it takes up space on the screen and no one needs it. I would still like to be able to sort. But that icon, repeated at the top of 20-30 columns of data, is ugly and not useful for our users.
