Custom pop-up message at charts

Hi Everyone!

Our costumer would like to see some explanation at all charts and objects.

It would be the best solution, if he/she got a pop-up like window when his/her mouse is over the objects.

Is it possible to create either a pop-up like box, or any on-mouse based explanation guide?

I can't find any extension related the topic.

Hi there,

The workaround we use - 'Text and image' chart. Make as small as possible.

In a View mode hover over the chart until you see 'full screen ' function. Click on it, go to Edit mode, type whatever you need, exit Edit mode. You're done!

Thank your suggestion it is useful.

I've already tried this method, but it consumes more place in grid than it would be acceptable.

An other workaorund is for custom explanation message is the following:

Create a variable in load script, e.g. vShowMessage
Import variable button like extension
Place every object subtitle the message as formula like this: if($(vShowMessage)=1,'Some explanation','')
The explanation text will appaer in subtitle, if the user click on the button.

Yeah this was a challenge for me as well. So, for which I can up with some thing like this.

This will give you the essential documentation for all the KPI's displayed on the sheet.

Hi Undergrinder,

I had a similar requirement, So I built a custom pop up which will explain all the KPI's in a sheet. Once clicked on the ? button, a pop up slides down with the explanations for all KPI's on the screen.

Please find attached a sample for this functionality attached.I have only removed the images from the images folder. You can replicate something like this for your purpose.

Hi Sangram!

The modal solution works good at 1.1, but there is a problem with Qlik Sense 2.1.1.

The modal appear, but the sense object is still active behind the modal.

It is like z-index problem, but the edit of CSS don't solve the problem.

Could suggest me some trick to solve this?

UPDATE:

It seems that, the modal works well only in parent object in QS 2.1.1, in other cases has problem.

It could be the z-index as you have mentioned. May be you should some other bootstrap. I haven't got a chance to look at this. I will look into this as well.

Hello Sangram,

your solution for Help pop up window extension looks really nice on the picture. You did good job. I would appreciate to use your solution in my Qlik Sense project. I downloaded you extension but it seems that it doesn'n work in Qlik Sense 2.1.1. or I don't know how to use it. If I put tooltip to dashboard, I see only blank space. I don't know how to put HTML content with help inside or how to connect tooltip with some button.

Hi Gnut,

The Tooltip extension which i have designed can be used directly with content modification to the underlying html files for versions below QS 2.1.1. Never got chance to build one for the 2.1.1 as our server is still not 2.1.1. But it should not be a big change to modify the extension. There should be a HTML folder in which I have all the HTML files. Just create a HTML file with all the content you need and place it in that folder. Once done specify the name of the HTML in the properties pane of the visualization.

I will take out time and try building a tool tip extension which can be used by others soon.

Hi Sangram,

Really appreciate this idea and would like to incorporate the same in one of my dashboards. Could you please let me know if there are any updated extension versions available for higher versions of Qlik Sense Desktop - Dashboards. If not, could you please suggest what changes are needed to be done in the existing extension to be able to use it in latest versions of Qlik Sense Desktop versions.

Hi, if you place your button (by which you call your modal) on the bottom of sheet it gives you the required result. Unexpected behavior but well, it worked for me. Had it been a JS/Bootstrap issue, the pop up would have not worked properly either ways.

So, I made an extension for the Qliksense June 2018 version which opens up a custom modal on clicking Help button (bottom left). You can add as many charts and the modal will adjust its size accordingly.
