Hi @Congrid ,

I'm a bit confused with the "Shared Document\Forms" path you are referring to. This is typically a system generated path where the "Shared Document\Forms\Document" may hold template etc for the document library. Are you sure this is the path to the documents the user is trying to access?

Also, does the user have permissions on the actual document library? As an example I have the following permissions inherited from the site on my document library:

Now, in my document library I created two folders, myDocumentFolder_1 and myDocumentFolder_2

On myDocumentFolder_1, site owners as well as site members have access:

and on myDocumentsFolder_2 only site owners have access:

The user "Isaiah Langer" is only a site member (not in the site owners group) and using credentials for Isaiah I can verify the folder myDocumentsFolder_2 is not accessible for that user when connected to Sharepoint 365

Check the permissions for the user on both document library as well on the document folder to make sure they have at least read access on both.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Hello everybody!

I have implemented the SharePoint conncetor to my Qlik Cloud environment following these instrucions .

However, I need to create a connection only to a specific subfolder included in the SharePoint site.

Is it possible using the SharePoint connector?

Thank you in advance!

If when you create the connection it does not let you refer directly to the folder, you can access it by loading the desired file by entering the necessary path, for example:

[Table1]:

LOAD

*

FROM [lib://sharepoint_conexion/path_to_subfoulder/Data.xlsx]

(ooxml, embedded labels, table is Hoja1);

Hello Pskumars,

Thanks for the suggestion, when I try to specify the folder i get this error:

The connection works when I specify the Base URL and the Site/Subsite Path. However, I also need to specify a particular folder: at this level I am not capable to move over.

Hi Carlos,

I need to specify it directly in the connection since I want to give the connection to some specific users.

Example: I have a folder named: "Sales", I need to create a Sharepoint_Sales connection and open a connection only in the space "Sales" where salesmen work.

Thanks,

Hi @FedericoDellAcqua

You cannot specify a specific Sharepoint list or item (such as a folder) when creating the connection. Only baseurl and subsite(s) can be used.

Access to specific lists or items should be governed within SharePoint as a best practice, e.g. give permissions to the specific users on the item(s) you want them to be able to access.

If you are going to create the connection (with shared credentials) and share it with others, create the connection using credentials with same permission set as those who's going to use the connection, as anyone using the connection will get access based on the shared credentials.

Another option is to use "User defined credentials" when creating the connection. User will then authenticate against SharePoint using their own credentials when using the connection and get access based on given permissions:

When the user creates a connection it creates successfully but while selecting data they first get an error below:

"Failed on attempt 1 to GET. (-2147024891,
System.UnauthorizedAccessException, Access denied.)"

After clicking on OK. if the path of the folder is then specified in the Path like "Shared Document\Forms" the user can view the folder/files.

But the initial error is misleading and causing confusion.

Is there a way around this error? Can we somehow specify the default path in the connection so the users do not get the error?

Hi @Bjorn_Wedbratt,

Thanks for your response with detailed screenshots.

We tested this but its not quite what we are looking for. The forms folder I shared was just as an example but sorry for the confusion.

The way our actual folder is setup is like below.

Root has folders

Dev, QA, Production

Under these there are multiple folders for different countries. We want users to have access to only their folder like "Test folder" under Production(Screenshot attached) should be the only folder a group of users should see. They should not have access to anything else in SharePoint.

Problem if we grant site members permissions to the user is that they can see a lot of other folders(screenshot attached) and can navigate though them. These are business users and we want them to directly land in their respective folders.

If their access is restricted to only the "Test folder" they get "Failed on attempt 1 to GET. (-2147024891)" error but can then type the path like "Shared Documents/Production/Test folder" and get to the path. This is not the ideal way for users to navigate.

Is there a way you can directly land into "Shared Documents/Production/Test folder" when we select data?

Hi @Congrid ,

I see what you mean, however afak there is no way to define a default folder path when creating the connection. The Site/SubSite path setting is to define which site within SharePoint to connect to, which will be seen as the "root" site once connected.

When you click the "Select data" to open the Select file wizard, the user needs to have at least read access on the parent folder, so if you break inheritance and only provide access to "Test" folder, but not "Production" or "Shared Documents" you will get the error shown and you need to manually enter the path, as you did.

I suggest you create a change request to see if this is something that can be changed in upcoming releases.

Best,

Bjorn

probably the best workaround I can think of for this is to have the SP admin person set up a private shared space and a connection in that space, and use an app in that space to store the needed files for the needed people into different shared spaces.

In my experience the person who owns the connection needs to be able to view the SP site homepage, the share documents folder and every folder along the way to the folder with the needed files. I have seen this documented anywhere

we are testing the other workaround the other folks have mentioned here... ignoring the initial error, and then manually typing in or pasting in a path to the folder

made up example:

Shared Documents/Folder1/Folder Number two/tired of all these folders/

will reply back if this works.

was able to confirm, that if the user has proper sharepoint access to the one folder where the files are, even if the error occurs (System.UnauthorizedAccessException, Access denied) when using the select wizard, there are two ways to get it to work...manually type in the path to the folder in the folder box and press enter... or manually create the load script and manually do the LIB statement to build the proper path to the file there.

the easiest way to do the second option is to put a copy of the file on a different SP site where your connection fully works (can select and browse), use the wizard to create that load script and then edit the LIB statement to use the other connection, and manually fix the path to the file there in the LIB statement. this is a decent workaround when the SP admins cannot grant more access to the site.
