I was wondering if you ever got this question answered as I am looking into it as well..

Currently we are planning to backup the production site and try to restore it on a Test server.

Any guidance or feedback on this would be most helpful.

We have tried implementing the DR set up.

We have replicated the postgresql and set up a robocopy of the qliksense shared folder scheduled ever night.

Follow the steps for database replication and failover.

Now it's a manual process to flipover to Dr setup.

There is lot of manual intervention.

Has anyone tried automating the setup?

It all depends on how you have deployed your environment, how many nodes are you using, are you using dedicated PostgreSQL server etc. For a true failover you will need dedicated PostgreSQL server. Having shared persistence set up using dedicated file server is the way to go.

We have automated deployment of Qlik Sense sites with DR in mind but the architecture patterns are different from site to site depending on your various factors (usually cost being the main factor..).

Thank you very much for the response .

PostgreSQL db is local to central . We have 1 central and 5 rim nodes in prod and same as DR.

In our current setup we are replicating the db to DR central and Installed the application in the rim node and set all the services to manual except DR PostgreSQL . At the time of Fail-over , we have to flip the DR load-balancing url and set all the services to auto delay and configure in the QMC.

Application data is scheduled daily to get copied to DR servers.

This is a laborious process. looking for a automation steps. PROD is in sync to DR.

Hi @prashanthi_gn , I would say that one way to go would be to setup a standalone PostgreSQL server of your own and use any third party replication tool that you might find more suitable:

What files/data does actually need backing up? is Postgres enough or do we need local files on the shared file repository/the nodes?

Do you have a support documentation on how to restore a system to attempt testing using the backup?

@witty - Please read this blog if you are interested in blacking up a Qlik Site. I have post a PowerShell script and instruction on how this can be used to automate the Qlik Sense site backup.

Please note - This is for shared persistence Qlik Sense deployment, where this script will allow you to back the file share and the repository database.

Is it shared persistence? (I am presuming it is). If it is then I will look to do the following. Move the PostgreSQL to its' own dedicated environment (move it away from central node). You can set up replication of that DB to a slave node.

Also move your file share to a dedicated file storage (if its not already set up that way). If you are on public cloud such as Azure - you can use Azure File Share, which allows you to create and automate backup of the storage in relatively simple steps . Idea is to isolate the File Storage and the DB so you can keep them in isolation of your central nodes, in case any issues with central node, you still have access to them.

This will move the headache of importing the application to the rim nodes manually.

So basically the datasources to backup are:

actual app datasource (any DB server)
the management Postgres (remote or local; pending the setup)
the fileshare setup/added during installation

Is that correct?

@witty - Yes, The PostgreSQL DB and the File share. Data source is not usually part of the Qlik Sense site backup process, but if they are in your environment (QVD, Flat Files etc) then yes you can back them up at the same time.
