Hi - relatively new to the Qlik community, and would like to determine if Qlik Sense can be installed locally to a linux box? We've enrolled in the cloud version, but are interested in keeping it local. Could use some insights:

a. Is there a version of Qlik Sense that can be installed locally to a linux box?

b. If not, is there a Qlik product that can be used to create analyitic type dashboards/applications that CAN be installed locally?

Thanks for any insights....

Sandy

Hi @SandyD,

The on premises version of Qlik Sense Enterprise Server or Qlik Sense Desktop is Windows based only. However you can access the Qlik Sense Hub from just about any modern browser. So if you can install server on a Windows server, you can connect to it from Linux. See Planning your Qlik Sense Enterprise deployment for further information.

Best Regards

Thank you Chip.

So, install to Windows, develop on Windows, publish on Windows, but connect to a published app from any browser. It's my understanding that we can embed an app in a web page? Or just place a link to the hub on a page?

My problem is that we have applications running in linux environments (most web based) but we'd like to incorporate the analytics presentations that Qlik can provide - so once the app is published on the Windows server, we're not limited to or restrained by Windows for access. Correct?

Thanks for your time!

Hello,

So Qlik Sense Enterprise needs to be installed on Windows yes, however developing, publishing, opening application is done from your Internet Browser (Qlik Sense Hub) so basically from anywhere as long as it is supported as per the system requirement.

As you mentioned you can also embed visualizations or links to the hub/apps in your own web page.

More information can be found here.

Hope this helps!

Hello!

Not exactly. Qlik Sense Desktop is really meant to be installed and used on your local PC (Windows Machine).

In most cases Qlik Sense Desktop is either use from application developer to create applications locally and then move them (manually) to Qlik Sense Enterprise to be consumed or it is used as a starting point to discover and explore the capabilities provided by Qlik Sense.

If the purpose is to embed visualizations into your own website, then you will need Qlik Sense Enterprise.

So to summarize;

Qlik Sense Enterprise = Server version of Qlik Sense and service based software meant to be available to multiple users all the time

Qlik Sense Desktop = Local version of Qlik Sense and standalone, meant to be installed on local computers.

Hope this make sense!
