Screen Reader behaves differently with extension

Hi, i created a qlik sense chart extension and expected the screen reader to read all text elements. the reader is able to read all the texts, however, the text (the reader is on) disappears while reading it so the user cant tell what is being read.

for other qlik sense objects, the reader highlights the text like so:

is there a CSS setting for this? is there anything i need to configure in the extension?
